Great art starts with a great story:
“Once, in a rushed panic, I squatted to pee over stinging nettle.”
Not every story needs to be long, but it does need to captivate.
As a lifelong Pacific Northwest resident, I grew up amongst the Evergreen trees and along the babbling creeks and creeping swordferns in scenic-yet-forgettable Kitsap County. I explored the vastness of forests like they were oceans and referred to the Salish Sea as “my rock”.
The benefits of surrounding oneself with green nature are astounding and understudied. We feel an extraordinary range of emotions when we communicate with plants: the excitement of spotting that rare plant on a hike; the triumph after successfully germinating a seed or the regret after relieving oneself over a defensive plant like nettle.
The characters of the natural world play colorful roles in this tale, and native plants are the protagonists. It’s my job to tell their stories.
I specialize in fine line botanical illustration, and my work often features plants of the Pacific Northwest. I currently live and find inspiration in Olympia WA with my wonderful wife, dog, and 3 cats. Buy some art to support a queer, neurodivergent, good-natured, environmental oddball who dreams of a day without student debt.
