This tree has been to space! As a mere seed, it was chosen to be part of a research project during the Apollo 14 moon mission. The seed left the atmosphere, orbited the moon in the personal equipment of atronaut Stuart Roosa, and returned safely to Earth where it was germinated and eventually planted in Olympia, WA. Of the thousands of seeds brought along, only about 70 are still alive today.
